As I have said many times before, I am scared of growing up. Next year will be my Senior Year! I am definitely excited, but I am super nervous. I don't know where I want to go to college, or what I want to do when I am older. In the mean time I am just trying to enjoy high school as much as I can. With the news I got yesterday, It's going to be quite easy to do just that!
Yesterday was our "Shawscars" which is like the Oscars for our productions class. Mrs. Shaw and the Theatre Officers choose awards (Best Female Actress, Best Male Actor, Best quote of the year, Best on stage mishap, etc.) to give out to students who work hard and fill that title. All the Seniors who are leaving can do a showcase to dance, sing, or do a monologue to show the new coming sophomores what we are all about. I won the award for "Best Female Ensemble Member". This is the award that I wanted really bad, so I am way glad I won!
Finally that night, it is announced what parts everyone will be in the upcoming shows. We already knew we would be doing "Fiddler on the Roof", but it was a surprise when Mrs. Shaw told us 3 other shows we would be doing...
First off will be our "Shakespeare's Autumn Feast". We did this last year. It is more of a fundraiser than a show. It is a one night dinner and show. We base everything as if it were back in Shakespeares time. We have servants, beggars, wine wenches, fairies, and the King and Queen. While the people are eating, we have students preform monologues from Shakespeare. Last year I was one of the fairy dancers. This year I am lucky enough to play the part of Titania! She is the Queen of the Fairies. She is the main dancer, and after the dance she gets to sit with the King and Queen and eat. She also has some lines. I was really really excited to get this part.
Our first real show is going to be the play "Dracula". I have never seen this play, so I am excited to read through it and see what it is all about. I will be playing a
Vexen, which is a female vampire. I am really excited to take on this part!
Our second play is going to be a bit smaller. It is "A Christmas Carol". I have never loved the movie my family owns of Christmas Carol, but I liked reading the book, and I liked a different version of the movie that I watched. I am really excited to be doing this. I got the part of
Ghost of Christmas Past. I would have never expected doing this play, let alone getting to be this part. I am definitely excited to do this!
And last, but definitely not least, was the moment all of us were waiting for. Auditions for "Fiddler on the Roof" were crazy. A lot of us were there until after 9:00 at night. We just kept singing, reading, and dancing for different parts. When we auditioned, I read for the part of Hodel (The middle daughter. She is strong willed like her mother. She falls in love with Perchick, the young student.) at least six times. I also sang for her and danced for her. I really wanted this part. I thought I might get it, but I didn't want to get my hopes up just in case. So when last night came, I was crossing my fingers for this part. I luckily got the part I wanted. I will be playing
Hodel next year! This part is going to be a real challenge for me, but I am going to work really really hard. She sings in 4 songs- Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, Now I Have Everything, and Far From the Home I Love. I have never had to sing with a microphone on stage before. I have a little bit of stage fright, so hopefully all goes well.
Last night went a lot better than expected. Next year is my first time with solos and lines, but I am willing to rise to whatever challenge is necessary to fulfill my part as best I can!
Sorry I usually don't write this much, I just really want to remember every detail!
